Welcome to the music industry.
.
A place where everyone will tell you about their next big track. The artist they're managing. The festival they're promoting. How they're about to blow the fuck up.
.
And NONE of it means anything.
.
Go look at anyone actually killing it in this business and it's usually not the talkers. It's the doers.
.
Executing on one single idea will do you more good than hyping up a hundred.
.
Don't fall into the trap of being another industry bullshitter.
.
Instead, just quietly get on with doing whatever you want to do as well as you possibly can.
.
Trust me, the world will notice.

Don’t copy today’s hit records when you’re trying to make tomorrow’s hit records.
This is one bit of advice I am so f*cking passionate about because it’s a mistake almost everyone makes including me at many points, and it doesn’t just apply to music, but books, art, film - any creative industry.
When a track blows up and hits the charts, many people try and copy the formula. “That was successful, so if I do something like it, mine will be successful too”, they think. That’s usually the way market research works, so it’s not an unreasonable assumption. That’s the reason there are there thousands of ‘Rozes’ or ‘I Took A Pill In Ibiza’ copycats being made, and how many of them will be successful?
Not a fucking one.
Meanwhile somewhere else, in another studio, another producer is cooking up tomorrow’s next hit - and what does it sounds like? Them. And nothing more.
Today’s big tracks, whether you measure by Billboard, Beatport, ASOT Future Favorite or whatever - were almost definitely made OVER A YEAR AGO because that is how long it takes to get a track signed and released. And trends move fast. Copy what’s big now, and you’re already out of date. You failed before you even started.
So what should you make?
What you want. What inspires you. What gets you buzzing. What puts goosebumps on your arms, tears in your eyes, or just makes you want to rage - whether the ideas feel current or not. Get inspiration from decades gone. Do things that have never bene done before. Just do you.
Think about it. Skrillex didn’t blow up by trying to sound like deadmau5. He just was Skrillex. Avicii didn’t copy Aoki and start his career throwing cakes. He was just himself.
Get the music right, and everything else will flow from there.
